Day LXXI - Asasabonsam

Hanging on leg hooks,
Vampiric fangs of metal,
African iron.

The vampire of West African legend, the Asasabonsam (or Asanbosam) is a dangerous beast hanging in the trees ready to prey on unsuspecting passers-by. Believed to have iron teeth and iron hooks for legs, the Ashanti people fear attacks from the evil predator who will dangle down and do away with them by eating them alive. The Asasabonsam allegedly aims its razor-sharp features on human thumbs first though doesn't appear to be fussy and will also stick its hooks and fangs into animals to satisfy the bloodthirst. In a way, the creature is an African mix of Count Dracula and Jaws from the James Bond movies with metal peg-legs and powerful acrobatic capabilities; all of which makes it pretty cool in my book. Respect is definitely due to the metal-edged tree-vampire terrorising West Africa.
