Tanuki are the lovable racoon-dogs of Japanese folklore renowned as figures of great fun. Aside from their shapeshifting abilities and love of good times and sake, tanuki are most famous for having hilariously huge testicles. The ace anime film Pom Poko is all about a community of tanuki who band together and use magic to try and save their forest from destruction at the hands of humanity; it's probably one of the best Studio Ghibli movies (even if the English dub does call them 'racoons' and cuts out all references to the testicles. Boo). The lucky, plucky and oh-so-adorable tanuki - you know you want to adopt one...
